Hawaii real estate license applicants must pass a computerized license examination administered by PSI. The exam consists of 80 national and 50 state-specific questions. To schedule an exam, you can call toll-free at 1-800-733-9267 or visit www.psiexams.com. You are encouraged to reserve your exam date at least three to four business days prior.
To schedule an exam, you will need the following:
- Personal information - legal name, address, phone, SSN, date of birth
- Exam specifics - exam type (salesperson, broker), preferred date and test center location
- Exam fees paid in full
Upon registering, you will receive an examination confirmation number.
For more information, read the state of Hawaii Real Estate Candidate Handbook, which includes details of all licensing requirements, exam reservation guidelines, and a list of all test center locations and hours of operation.
You must bring to the test center on examination day the following:
- Two forms of signature identification, one of which must be photo-bearing
- An original, unexpired Hawaii School Completion Certificate (or Prelicensing Education Equivalency Certificate for Real Estate License Exam)
- Exam confirmation number
- If applicable, an original, unexpired Equivalency to Uniform Section of Examination Certificate
Upon arriving at the test center, you’ll need to show your photo ID to the test administrator. Then a brief online tutorial will familiarize you with the computerized testing system before you answer 130 multiple-choice questions.
The exam has two parts: the uniform portion covers national real estate law and practices; the state portion covers Hawaii-specific law and practices. These two portions are graded separately; you must pass each with a score of 70% or better.
You will have four (4) hours to complete the exam. Be sure to attempt answering every question. A passing score is valid for two years.
